Today, Philadelphia is facing one of the worst heroin epidemics in the city's history. In its annual report, the DEA has confirmed that Philadelphia ranks fifth in overdose deaths per 100,000 people. To put this in another perspective, there was a thirty percent increase in overdose deaths from 2015 to 2016.
The use of Narcan Nasal Spray has now been utilized to prevent overdoses during emergency situations. Join us on October 17th as Professor Alkus trains the Criminal Justice Society on how to administer Narcan Nasal Spray to an indivual during an overdose. This event is one of several ways to confront the heroin epidemic that is centered in Philadelphia. In addition, the Criminal Justice Society will also be collecting any women's hygiene product donations for the McPherson Square Neighborhood Library.
